The 100G QSFP28 DR1 uses single-lane 100G PAM4 modulation to deliver 100G over a single pair of duplex LC SMF, drastically reducing intra-center fiber usage. With FEC it stays under 4W, reaches 500m over SMF for cross-rack interconnect, and aligns with the 400G DR4 roadmap via 4×100G breakout.
